Pros & Cons

  • The best thing about working in my company is how we are given abundant opportunities to build individually and as a team in the specific department you are in. The liberty to just "do your thing"
  • I believe the best thing about working in ING HUBS PH is the opportunities for career growth. They offer a learning platform for us to utilize for upskilling and skill enhancement. Additionally, the management actively listens to their employees regarding their career aspirations. Furthermore, the company also offers extracurricular activities to promote work-life balance for their employees. Lastly, the company has a great working environment with positive values.
  • The work-life balance is great. People respect your time and you are able to rest whenever you need to. With such a great work environment, we are able to meet our targets while not sacrificing our personal time.
  • The training is the best thing for me both the instructor-led training and the self-paced training really gave me a lot of knowledge about my field even though I'm a fresh graduate. I have learned so much in the training and it had led me to passing my certification. Another thing would be the culture of the company, since I feel like everyone listens to each other and everyone is helping each other to succeed their goals.
  • Well-planned program that enables us to accelerate growth. Plenty of opportunities that allows us to work not just with nearby colleagues but also those from other locations of ING. We also had talks with senior management where they shared their experiences and answered our questions.
  • The worst thing about working in ING I would consider would be the traffic considering the manila rush hour, but the location negates this considering the public transportation available.
  • With my role, the major limitation can be the high responsibility of delivering a working application that is crucial to millions of users, which can be quite daunting and stressful. Additionally, the need for continuous growth and professional development to keep up with current technology advancements is demanding. Thus, there’s a need to stay a step ahead.
  • There are times when requests for installing software required for certain tasks take too much time. While this is understandable from a security and IT risk perspective, it may consume time that can be used for productive work.
  • The department I work with has a tendency to develop siloed, specialized knowledge, which is not great if you are leaning into leadership positions. Workload can be intense.
  • It's a personal thing, but as a fresh graduate I would've wanted to experience more in office interactions with my colleagues. We have a hybrid setup where we're only required to go four times in a month, and I think a lot of communication skills, and relationships that I could've learned and gained in this new work from home era may have been lost.

Culture
The work culture in the office is beyond admirable. I could see that all those who work onsite are very much productive. I have also seen how they are able to manage their time well. They make sure that they have time to converse with their co-workers and they have time to take breaks together. As for the cooperation and teamwork, I have seen how they collaborate and help each other out when problems arise. Outside work, they also ensure the well-being of each and everyone, most especially in the recent calamity that hit the country.

My role as a graduate engineer gives me a wide range of things to do in my day-to-day. I have tasks for delivery where I am able to use my coding skills and critical thinking, and I can also choose to do initiative work where I can hone leadership, and creative thinking. My day-to-day varies, there are days that I only do delivery work or initiative work, and some days I can do a little bit of both. I also find it important to note that despite having a wide range of things to do on the daily, I do not work beyond office hours. I just find being able to choose to do different things more stimulating and fitting for my work ethic.

Management
My managers are great mentors. They always make themselves available when I need help with something. They always check up on me to ensure that I am adjusting well and that I am doing well. They also connect me with other employees so that I can also communicate with other members of the team. Observing them as managers of the whole team, they also ensure to easily make themselves reachable. When concern arises, they are always quick to reply. In terms of internal communication or performance feedback or praise, they ensure to communicate private matters appropriately. They also have one-on-ones with each of the employee to discuss their performance and among other things. For remarkable accomplishments and performances, they announce it to the whole team. I see this as a way to motivate other employees to strive for excellence as well.

Office Work Environment
The company's offices are spectacular. They equipment (e.g., monitor, meetings rooms) helps the employees for their productivity. Other facilities such as sleeping quarters, table tennis encourage the aspect of balance between work and play. From time to time, employees also need to take a break, so they can make use of these facilities to temporarily step away from their work. With regards to the dress code, ING has policies for that. The basic premise of the dress code is that employees must be presentable at the office.

Actively pursuing this role was one of the smoothest job applications I have ever done as compared with other companies. Email replies were swift alongside processing my documents. Moreover, assessments were thorough as it also included an onsite hire-athon which really showcased a day in the life in ING.

ING's pay is very competitive with the market. The annual increase is also great. Those who work hard receive what they deserve.

Training
There were two weeks for our foundational training where we got to know the basics of our company and its culture. After that, functional training lasted for six weeks and was done in multiple ways like a classroom training, simulations, assessments, and a job shadowing where we shadowed our Orange Professional Partners (OPPas) on how to actually do our job. With this job, one must truly be resourceful, collaborative, and analytical.
